Please help PWV's continued existance by considering an endowment.
Dear Supporter,
For the past 15 years, individuals have served the Poudre Wilderness Volunteers by providing countless hours patrolling and maintaining trails, and educating users of the backcountry and wilderness areas of Northern Colorado, creating and preserving a legacy of these cherished areas for future generations.

By making an unrestricted gift to the Poudre Wilderness Volunteers Endowment Fund, you can preserve the legacy of Poudre Wilderness Volunteers, providing a reliable financial structure for the organization to enable it to continue to recruit, train and outfit volunteers for years to come.
PWV Co-Founder Chuck Bell was awarded a national Volunteer Lead Award from the University of Phoenix and the HandsOn Network and designated Poudre Wilderness Volunteers as the recipient of the generous $10,000 award. The Board of Directors designated this award as the seed money for the unrestricted Endowment Fund.
Welcoming this decision, Chuck said, “PWV has matured into a very solid organization that will be around for years to come. It deserves the financial stability an endowment can provide.”
We have already received a matching gift pledge from an advisory board member who will match the first $2,000 in gifts (collectively) received from current and former PWV Members by December 31, 2010. If PWV raises $4,000 from current and former PWV Members by the date, she will contribute an additional $500. Help us realize the full potential of this match and consider making a gift to the Endowment Fund today.

Sincerely yours,

The purpose of the Fund is to provide a stable, predictable, and ongoing funding basis for supporting: a) new PWV programs and initiatives and b) a portion of PWV’s annual operating costs via earnings (not principle) of the fund.
The Poudre Wilderness Volunteers Endowment Fund Committee ("Committee") is constituted to recognize and administer gifts to the Poudre Wilderness Volunteers Endowment Fund ("Fund").
Generally, the principal of the gifts and contributions made to the Endowment Fund remain in the Fund and distributions of income are made to support PWV, primarily by enhancing or improving on the activities already performed by PWV.
Assets of the Fund may include contributions from various sources directed specifically to the Endowment Fund by the donor or designated by the Board for inclusion in the Endowment Fund. Examples include current donations directed to the Endowment Fund, donations given in memory of a person, directed to a memorial fund, or given by will, trust, gift annuity, or similar bequest. Contributions are preferred to be unrestricted, but if restricted, a $10,000 minimum must be met. Any Restricted Endowed Funds need to be approved by both the Committee and the Board.
The Fund is a long-term investment. The Committee will seek preservation of the Fund’s principal and provide for dependable and reasonable rate of return, with low to moderate investment risk.
No distributions will be made from the Fund until the unrestricted Fund account balance reaches $50,000. Thereafter, up to 66% of the net earnings of the unrestricted Fund, valued as of Dec 31, may be distributed by the Committee. The remaining 33% of net earnings will be added to the principal to offset inflation. At no time will the unrestricted Fund balance be reduced through such distributions to a level below $50,000. Exception: Board declares financial exigency. Then 10% of the Fund may be used for up to 2 years to preserve the organization. Restricted Fund distribution will be according to the terms generally defined by the donor. (Note: only earnings will be distributed.)
The annual granting process will involve the following steps: Announcement of the availability of Grant funding; distribution of Grant request forms; Grant application review and approval. Individual PWV members, recognized PWV committees, or the Board can make Grant applications. If approved by the Board, distributions will be made available as soon as possible thereafter.
Your donation will be acknowledged promptly by letter.
